Splash Mountain replacing Ripsaw Falls at Islands of Adventure It’s so controversial that the Florida government was suing to keep Splash Mountain open as we reported here. Why would Universal want to acquire such a controversial ride? Because they know fans love it. Why is Universal Studios Acquiring Splash Mountain? Guests are already chomping at the bit to get back on Splash Mountain again. The refurbishment and retheme to Splash Mountain will then take close to a year, but will certainly be worth it. Universal closed is draining the water from Ripsaw Falls. This is certainly a surprise to most people that Universal is acquiring a seemingly controversial ride and adding it to their theme park. In fact, Universal is buying most of the Splash Mountain props from Disney and will use them in the ride. “Hop inside a hollow log and float through a colorful bayou as you follow happy-go-lucky Br’er Rabbit to his “laughing place.” But be warned: Br’er Bear and Br’er Fox are in hot pursuit of this wayward hare.” The new ride at Universal will follow the same storyline. This is the description according to Disney. The ride will not be an exact replica of the Disney World version, however, it will tell a very similar story.
